Tony Broering
Head Coach / Defensive Coordinator
This is Coach Broering’s 9th season as the Thunderbolts Head Coach. Coach Broering has compiled a 42-31 record in his six seasons as head coach. The Thunderbolts have been league champions three times under Coach Broering and have been in the Division I playoffs five times. Coach Broering served as the Thunderbolts Defensive Coordinator before becoming the head coach. Coach Broering is entering his 33rd year as a high school football coach. Coach Broering was the head football coach at Springfield from 1999-2005.
In 2005, Coach Broering was selected to be the Offensive Coordinator in the Ohio vs Pennsylvania Big33 Classic game. Coach Broering has also coached in the Miami Valley Football Coaches Association (MVFCA) All-Star game 10 times. Coach Broering was selected by the MVFCA as the Assistant Coach of the Year, once for defense in 1999 and once for offense in 2006. In 2021 Coach Broering was selected as the Head Coach of the Year by the MVFCA. Coach Broering also has the distinction of being the only Head Coach to win the MVFCA All-Star game three times (2002,2018 and 2019).
Coach Broering attended Muskingum College where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. Coach Broering is also the Head Track Coach at Northmont.
Coach Broering is married to his wife Michelle and they have two children Alex and AJ.
John Brands
Associate Head Coach / Defensive Line
Coach Brands is entering his 18th year of coaching at Northmont. Previously he coached at Northmont from 1984-88. Coach Brands is a graduate of Northmont (83). He played on two league championship teams as a defensive lineman and an offensive guard. He is retired from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and currently resides in Butler Township with his wife Teresa. They have two children Tiffany and Trent.
Tom Adams
Offensive Coordinator
Coach Adams is entering his 48th year in high school coaching. Coach Adams was a head coach for 18 years, West Milton, Springfield South and Sycamore, and 29 years as an assistant coach. Tom has been either an offensive coordinator or a defensive coordinator 41 of the 47 years. In 1993, Coach Adams coached Co-Offensive players of the year (Dee Miller and Chris Wallace). Coached Parade All-American and Gatorade Player of the Year, Dee Miller in 1993. While coaching at Springfield South Coach Adams was the WOL Coach of the Year in 1995, 1996 and 1997. Tom was named Clark County Coach of the Year in 1991 and 1997 and was named MVFCA Division 1 Coach of the Year in 1996. In 2007 Coach Adams was inducted into the Dayton Amateur Baseball Commission Hall of Fame and in 2013 he was inducted into Fairmont High Schools Hall of Fame. Coach Adams is married, Sandi, and they have two children (DJ and Katie.)
Eric Gillespie
Defensive Coordinator
Coach Gillespie is entering his 2nd stint coaching at Northmont this season, in this his 37th year, as Defensive Coordinator and Secondary Coach. Prior to NHS Coach Gillespie has been the Defensive Coordinator/Corners Coach at Miamisburg High School 2019-2022; DB Coach at Beavercreek High School in 2018; Defensive Coordinator/DB Coach at Vandalia Butler High School 2016-2017; Head Coach at Springfield High School 2012-2013; Head Coach at Richmond (Ind.) High School from 2007-2011 – while serving on the Indiana Football Coaches Association Board of Directors from 2008-2011; Head Coach at Franklin Heights High School in Columbus in 2005-2006; Secondary Coach at Northmont High School in 2004; Head coach at Hamilton High School 2002-2003; Head coach at Fairborn High School from 1999-2001– where he was selected Western Ohio League Coach of the Year and Miami Valley Football Coaches Association Division I Coach of the Year; RB Coach at Cin. Sycamore High School in 1998; Defensive (6) & Offensive Coordinator (1) at Chaminade-Julienne High School from 1991-1997; and began coaching as Linebacker coach Special Teams Coordinator at Middletown High School from 1987-1990. Coach Gillespie has coached in the MVFCA All-Star Game 5 times, was elected President of the MVFCA in 2003, and is currently the chair of the MVFCA Hall of Fame Committee. He played college football at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina where he lettered every year. He received his bachelor’s degree in special education and master’s degree in educational leadership from Wright State University. Coach Gillespie is a graduate of Stebbins High School where he was an All-League/All-Area performer in football and Captain of the Track team. Coach Gillespie is an Intervention Specialist at Springfield High School. Coach Gillespie and his wife Tina have two sons, Aaron 26, and Marcus 22.

Mark Mays
Running Backs / Run Game Coordinator
Coach Mays is entering his 11th year of coaching at Northmont. Mark has a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University and was a member of the Falcons football team for four years, and finished his fifth year of football at Saginaw Valley State University while working on his Masters degree. Mark is a 2009 graduate of Northmont. Mark and his wife, Katanna, have two daughters, Miliana and Kia. They currently reside in the City of Englewood.
Jake Myers
Linebackers
This is Coach Myers 8th year on the Northmont staff, his 4th year as a varsity assistant. Coach Myers is a 2006 graduate from Northmont. He played football, basketball and baseball while at Northmont. Coach Myers then continued his education and football career at Ohio Northern University. He graduated from Ohio Northern with a B.A. in Health & Physical Education. Prior to Northmont, he had coaching stints at Mansfield Madison Comprehensive High School, Richmond High School and National Trail High School. Coach Myers is a Physical Education teacher at Northmont Middle School and resides in the City of Englewood with his wife Samantha and two sons, Mason (11) and Nolan (8) and daughter Shiloh (2).
Chris Stanley
Defensive Backs / Recruiting Coordinator
Coach Stanley is entering his 10th year on the Northmont Staff. Chris is a 2002 graduate of Northmont High School. He was a 3-year starter for the Bolts from 1999-2001. Chris holds a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Wright State University, along with a Master’s degree in Special Education. Coach Stanley is currently an Intervention Specialist at the Kleptz Early Learning Center in the Northmont School District. He and his wife, Jessica, have two sons, Myles, (5) and Jordan (3) and they currently reside in the City of Clayton.
Tim Szabo
Wide Receivers
This is Coach Szabo’s 1st year on the Northmont Staff, this will be his 6th year as a varsity assistant football coach. Coach Szabo is a 2011 graduate of Chaminade Julienne High School. He played football and basketball while at CJ. Coach Szabo continued his education and football career at the University of Findlay. He was an All-League Wide Receiver and voted captain his senior year. He graduated from the University of Findlay with a B.S. in Middle Childhood Education. Prior to Northmont, he had coaching stints at Chaminade Julienne (4 years) and Fairborn (1 year). Coach Szabo is an 8th grade Math teacher at Northmont Middle School. He and his wife, Grace have a daughter Addison (1) and are expecting another girl in May 2022.
Mike Walker
Offensive Line
The 2022 season will be Coach Walker’s 34th year of coaching high school football. Coach Walker has been an offensive line coach at numerous high schools. Most recently Coach Walker spent 6 years at Hilliard Bradley High School. Before that Coach Walker was at Olentangy High School. Mike was the head coach at Hamilton Township High School from 2002-2004. Coach Walker was also the head baseball coach at Hamilton. This will be Coach Walkers 2nd stint coaching at Northmont. Coach Walker is very excited to join the Northmont staff and help build on the culture and winning tradition that Coach Broering has cultivated at Northmont. Coach Walker is married, Molly, and they have two daughters Kate (21) and Megan (18).
